AW15 COATS WITH AARON TVEIT
It says a lot about Aaron Tveit’s inherent likeability that he first came to the world’s attention as a slimy, adulterous politician (in Gossip Girl), then an aggressive political activist (in Les Miserables) and yet is still seen as your quintessential, clean-cut American guy. Perhaps his role as a violent, gun-wielding kidnapper in the just-released psychological thriller Big Sky will add to the darkness of his on-screen persona (the New York Times certainly seemed to think so when praising his performance) but in real life the New York born actor is as sunny and thoughtful as you’d expect – he’s even brought his own clippers to our shoot in case a trim might be in order.

As FBI rookie Mike Warren in TV hit Graceland Aaron gets to flex his action muscles, but early next year he’ll be revisiting his Broadway roots playing Danny Zuko in the televised production of Grease: Live. And, if his balance of tough-guy and all-singing-all-dancing entertainer seems effortless, that’s because the 32 year old learned from the best, ‘A natural inspiration for me is Hugh Jackman, he’s someone who I’ve worked with and gotten to know’ Aaron says of his Les Mis co-star. ‘He’s the greatest guy, who has really been able to navigate keeping separate the worlds of on-stage musical talent to what he does playing Wolverine and other big films, and everyone believes in him, in every venue. That’s something I aspire to.’
Having arrived at the shoot dressed in a beaten white tee, denim shorts and classic Nike sneakers, Aaron is nonetheless more than game for dressing up in this season’s most fashion-forward coats, ‘I’m a t-shirt and jeans kinda guy. But I do like the opportunity to dress outside of my comfort zone.’ And as he did, we managed to persuade him to share some of his own style secrets…By Tony Cook

人気TVシリーズ『Graceland（邦題：西海岸捜査ファイル グレイスランド）』で新人FBI捜査官、Mike Warren役ではアクションを披露したかと思えば、来年早々に公開される『Grease: Live』ではDanny Zuko役を演じ、自らのルーツであるミュージカルに再び挑戦。FBIのタフガイと、歌って踊れる高校生、という正反対の役を楽々とこなしているように見えるのは、才能豊かな先輩から学んだことが大きいようだ。「『Les Miserables』での共演をきっかけにHugh Jackmanと親しくなり、影響を受けるようになりました」とAaronは語る。「彼は本当に素晴らしい人。『Wolverine（邦題：ウルヴァリン）』などのブロックバスター映画とミュージカル、2つの世界をきっちり棲み分けながら才能を発揮して、どの現場でもみんなから絶大の信頼を得ている。僕もそんなふうになりたいと思っています」

Although a lot of Aaron’s schedule demands West Coast locations, the Big Apple is where he calls home, and serves as a continual source for sartorial inspiration. ‘The fashion here is interesting’ he acknowledges. ‘It’s a dressy kind of casual. People take pride in what they wear, putting as much thought into it as they would if dressing up. I’ve definitely been influenced [by that] living in New York City.

‘Fashion changes, it comes and goes, but a classic like this (a Jil Sander cashmere camel number from Carson Street Clothiers to be precise) will change with whatever is going on around it. You can throw it over hoodies and sweats, dress it up or dress it down.’ And he suggests having a load of good basics to hand too. ‘I love Rag and Bone, I have a couple of their hoodies and basics, really nice jerseys and t-shirts that are comfortable and work really well.

Naturally Aaron holds his fellow men of the silver screen in high regard – and not only their acting abilities but their style savvy too. ‘Someone like Ryan Gosling is very well put together. He can put on a suit or a very high fashion outfit, but at the same time you can see him walking down the street in jeans and a t-shirt. But it’s always very specific to him, and I admire that.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS
While filming Les Miserables in London, Aaron was inspired by how the Brits pay particular attention to one garment – or rather – undergarment. ‘British guys’ sock game is really on point!’ he says, ‘Colourful socks, how it worked with their trainers and pants and lots of other very small details.
